Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Cadet Rifle, #490387, .45-70 cal., 30'' barrel, blue finish, smooth walnut short comb stock, with Buffinton sight and 1884 type ramrod. Marked ''U.S.'' in front of buttplate tang screw, and ''303'' behind screw. Stock is cartouched ''SWP/1890'' in oval, breechblock marked ''U.S./Model/1873'', barrel marked ''V/P/(eagle)/P'', barrel bands marked ''U''. Condition is very good with all original blue turning a deep brown. Triggerguard retains about 80% original blue with freckling overall. Replaced breechblock (should be an 1884) retains some case color as does barrel tang. Action is tight, bore is bright with some corrosion near the muzzle that should clean. Est.: $500-$750. (Antique)
